Light at the end of the tunnel...?

As most of you know I have curly hair and I don't mean cute little Nicole Kidman curly hair. I mean I have a head of curly hair that is its own entity. I have spent my life hanging my head in shame, being called names and having hairdressers point out my hair to everyone in the salon. It has been a thorn in my side for my entire life. I have tried straightening it only for it to NEVER truly take and just wind up being more work to keep it straight than not. I have tried to keep it short and to be brutally honest it looks like lamb wool short and I HATE it! I have been trying to grow it long but it takes an eternity to grow.

Anyway, having a moment of I have no idea what to do with my hair for the upcoming special events in our lives this year (aka Billy and Natalie's wedding and Jenn's grad) I stayed up until 2:00 am searching the internet and found a site called Naturally Curly.

So far it hasn't given me the glorious answers but here's hoping that this community of fellow curly tops can give me the guidance and support I could use since there aren't many people around here who share my curly locks....

Above, see a not so good picture of me and see,not too clearly, what my hair looks like. Perhaps, if it is it's own entity, I should give it a name....taking suggestions..LOL.

Hi! Hopped over here from NaturallyCurly. Your hair looks very similar to mine, when my hair is short. I've gotten lots of very useful advice from nc.com. Some of it takes awhile to show results, but I can make a rec for a couple of things that I think would help. One, when you condition, add a few drops of honey to your conditioner, then apply and rinse. After that, I think some Garnier Fructise Soft Curl Cream. Make sure you emulsify in your hands really well before applying. Also, I like to "rake" in my product with my fingers to make sure all my hair is coated. Then, use a nice hard gel like Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee. Scrunch it in to your curls on top of the Soft Curl Cream. I think you will like that combo!

Thanks for the advice curlyjenn; I will definitely have to try that out.

Dusty:

I am trying to grow it long; it just takes so darn long. For instance I had short hair 5 years ago. Other than trimming it, I have not had it cut since...By short I mean extrememly short.

Thanks for the compliment by the way, it is nice to have some positive feedback once in a while. *grin*

Your hair is gorgeous. That said from one who has fine, straight hair that doesn't hold a curl beyond my front door. There is definitely something about wanting what isn't ours, huh? I'm envious.

Thank you Dominique! I guess it has never helped my ego or esteem to grow up here where hair like this is not completely common and I got teased to tears most every day of school and teased to feeling very self-conscious about the entire hair entity thing...

So thank you all for your comments and compliments. They sure mean a lot to me.
